Who is TAPZ?!

While graffiti is technically illegal in South Africa, graffiti has gained a life of its own in cities such as Johannesburg and Cape Town.

From the walls of run-down buildings and high-rise structures to the pillars under the M1 highway on Henry Nxumalo Street in Newtown art is integrated into the life of the city. But one artist stands out the most in terms of their reach and execution of their work - TAPZ.

TAPZ is Joburg's most notorious street artist, known for their brazen tags in unexpected places.

Certainly one of my favorite artists, TAPZ is no formal artist but is definitely a maverick in their own right. Daring to break the rules for the sake of sharing art, their rebellious masterpieces are even more inspiring in the quality of work with the risk taken in creating them. Allowing the beauty of creativity to be exhibited to the general public, TAPZ uses the world as its canvas.

Although the world may know of their work, many still puzzle over the million-dollar question of WHO OR WHAT IS TAPZ?
